Ah, Valentine’s Day – A holiday to celebrate the ones we love and show them our adoration.
Personally, I find the holiday a little silly. Jammed right between holiday expenses and tax season; It’s really just an excuse to go out to eat, meanwhile the local restaurants are busier than ever.
While people are busy de-stemming roses they found at Trader Joe’s, or taping together cheap date ideas, I’m asking you to remember to celebrate the one who is most important to you.
Who puts up with the long lines at Costco?
Who asks for a new drink at the coffee shop because they actually asked for oat milk and they really don’t want to say anything, but really don’t want their tummy to hurt later?
The one who actually gets sh*t done. Despite the good and the bad, I’m talking about your inner Karen.
Karen is usually thought of as loud, demanding, and entitled. She may not always be in the right, but you have to respect the fact that she’s standing up for herself. This Valentine’s Day I invite you to channel your inner Karen, an act of self-love I deem ‘Self Karen’. (Perhaps leaving behind the bad attitude and entitlement, but embracing your tenacity and fighting spirit.)
This playlist is an unrelenting display of self-love. The highest form of empowerment and attitude you can only find within mom-rock tracks of the late nineties to early 2000s. Being shamelessly and unabashedly yourself, in other words, being a “Karen” about it. After all, in the wise words of Ru Paul, “If you can’t love yourself, how the hell are you gonna love somebody else?”
This mix is all gas, no brakes, cut the grease, serving you the best-of-the-best mom-rock classics. Featuring the likes of Shania Twain, Alanis Morisette, Melissa Ethelridge; and in my opinion, the queen of mom rock, Sheryl Crow.

Personal favorites of mine being the 1997 hit by Meredith Brooks, “Bitch” and “Consider me Gone” by the legendary Reba McEntire, a constant jam in our household.

When you’ve got a denim jacket, tweed heels, and a dream. Embracing the Karen in all of us and feeling the breeze on the back of your freshly graduated bob.
Below you will find this Salon Mix as well as all the previous ones on my Spotify.
Please feel free to reach out with any song recommendations that help you bring out your Inner Karen, would love to hear from you.
